Okay, WOW to this piece! You’ve done a very thorough job picking through the absurdity of current times — this is very much a wake up call piece, I feel like I’ve been slapped in the face (in a good way 😂).
Interestingly, the Latin root of absurd is out of tune, implying stupidity. As you suggest, we shouldn’t participate in the absurd ways of the world if we want to make it better. I think one way of doing this is asking a straightforward question — does this person/company/moment etc seem stupid to me? If it’s a yes, then we shouldn’t engage.
Extraordinary read, Jes! So glad you reminded me of HyperNormalisation - I had to mention it in my new essay. That slotted in perfectly. If you're curious, check it out here: https://mutantfutures.substack.com/p/006

Thank you so much!!!! Made my day!

We need a revival of the word absurd!

It's pretty suprising that all of this is "new" to most people in developed western societies. For us in the "global south", es el pan de cada día.
Thank you for checking in! I’m trying to get back to my creative practice. Will keep readers updated ~
